Comparison Gallery: Samurai Zords vs. Shinkenger Mecha

WARNING: PICTURE HEAVY…OBVIOUSLY.

As promised, here’s a little piece I put together to help those still on the fence about the Power Rangers Samurai Zord line. Below are comparison photos of each individual Zord and official Megazord configuration. On the  left is the Power Rangers Samurai version from Bandai of America, and on the right is the Samurai Sentai Shinkenger version from Bandai of Japan. This guide is not based on opinion, but is simply my way of giving people a helpful look at the differences between the two. My opinions can be found in the reviews for each item, but I’ll give my thoughts on the two lines at the end of this article. Let’s begin!

Review: Hydro Bow (Power Rangers Samurai)

While I’m happy to be seeing more weapons in the Basic Weapon line that isn’t a Morpher or the Spin Sword, I’ll be the first to admit the Hydro Bow is an odd choice, given the fact that the sixth Ranger is generally a hit with the kids. Granted, a Barracuda Blade done in that size class would probably be a bit to small, it’s a weapon I’m still surprised we haven’t seen stateside. Regardless, the Basic Weapon line gives us the Hydro Bow, Kevin’s weapon of choice, shaped like a typical bow. The Morphers play music, and the Spin Sword spins, so what does this do? It squirts water. This one shot water squirter can be yours for $14.97 at Walmart. Just as a note, the Hydro Bow will also be packed in the Blue Ranger Training Gear Set, which will feature a Blue Ranger mask, the Shiba Logo pin, a Disk Holding Belt Buckle, the Hydro Bow, the Dragon Disk, the Swordfish Disk, and the “Catch” Disk.

Review: Black Box Morpher (Power Rangers Samurai)

The “basic” weapon assortment received a slight upgrade, as the new releases are priced $14.97 at Walmart, a price hike of $5. Why a price hike? Well, I assume it’s because they want more money, but at least now we get some bigger and better toys right? Maybe. Not really. Oh well. The Black Box Morpher is a completed and refined version of the Black Box the Rangers received from the Tengen Gate. It has yet to appear in the show (sans “Clash”) but should be coming up within the first couple episodes of Season 2. The device activates the Super Mode for any Ranger that uses it, giving them a flowing coat of justice. The toy also has connect-ability with the Spin Sword and the Mega Blade. Oh yeah, it also includes the same disk holding belt buckle that was included in the Red Ranger Training Set.

Review: Spin Sword (Power Rangers Samurai)

The Spin Sword used in this review is the first release of the toy that can be found at most major retailers for $9.97 (Walmart) to $14.99 (TRU) depending on the location. The first release features the simple plastic sword with a black Lion Disk. The second release was found in the Red Ranger Training Set available at TRU for $24.99. This release included a Red Ranger mask, a disk holding buckle (the one with the Black Box Morpher), the Spin Sword, a black Standard Disk, Red Lion Disk, and White Tiger Disk. The third version, retailing for $14.99 at Walmart, will be the exact same as the first release, but with sounds included in the toy. There will also be a new Red Ranger Training Set that now includes the Shiba Logo pin (included with the Hydro Bow release) but it is currently unknown if the new set will include the Spin Sword with sounds or without sounds. That’s four ways to get this toy.

Review: Power Rangers Samurai – 4″ Wave 3

Wave 3 was announced and released about as fast as it possibly could! Wave 3 consists of six new figures: Super Samurai Red, Super Samurai Blue, Super Samurai Green, Normal Samurai Yellow, Normal Samurai Pink, and Master Xandred! Yup, another villain! So far, each wave has given us one new Samurai villain, so this collection is really pumping them out. I picked up each of these figures for $8.99 at my  local Toys R Us. Considering these have been spotted at some Walmart locations for $6.86, I would highly suggest waiting unless you absolutely have to have them right this instant.
