Space Ironmen Kyodain (or Kyodyne) was an old Toei produced Tokusatsu that came back into the limelight after several fans noticed Kamen Rider Fourze’s head bore a striking resemblance to Skyzel. Low and behold the Space Ironmen were revived in an all new form for the Kamen Rider Fourze summer movie as Groundain and Skydain, an amalgamation of their original names (Skyzel and Grounzel) and Kyodain. The Ironmen were now evil, serving as the villains of the film, and Skydain was now a female, unlike Skyzel in the original Kyodain. Both figures were released in March, 2013 for ¥4,410 and ¥4,200 respectively, in what clearly SHOULD have been a two-pack. As much as I’m meh on the idea of reviving older Tokusatsu heroes as villains or allies in all of these Rider films, the designs of these guys are actually really cool. Despite Groundain’s blocky body or Skydain’s excessive use of shoulderpads, there’s little articulation hinderance on them, and the joints are actually pretty stable. Because of the all plastic build, they feel a bit fragile compared to some of the main Riders, but it’s something I can look past. Groundain includes two additional hands, plus a hand that has him holding Skydain’s hand to initiate their final attack. Skydain includes two additional hands, plus two sword weapons for her gauntlets. After the Greeeds and Zodiarts, I’ve accepted the fact that any S.H.Figuarts exclusive that takes an excessive amount of new molding is going to come with a very minimal amount of accessories, so I again I can look past it. If you were a fan of the Ironmen in the Fourze film, or just really like their designs, I recommend the pick up. Unfortunately they go for ¥4,000-¥6,000 on the aftermarket, so they probably won’t come cheap. Happy hunting!
