Review: Henshin Smartphone Applichanger (Ressha Sentai ToQger)
Henshin Smartphone Applichanger
Retail Release – June, 2014 – ¥3,500
ToQ 6Gou has arrived in all of his orange glory! To ToQ Change, Akira uses the Applichanger, a smartphone transformation device that feels like some weird mix between a slider keyboard phone and an iPhone. It was released at the end of June, 2014 for ¥3,500. Like most Sixth Ranger Changers, the Applichanger is horribly limited when compared to the ToQ Changer. The toy has four base functions: Change, Summon Build Ressha, Summon Drill Ressha, and Call. Press a button, flip out the tracks, and slide a Ressha along them to activate the sound. It’s worth noting that you don’t need a specific Ressha (or a Ressha in general) to activate the sounds, all that needs to happen is the small button needs to be pressed. Included is the Build Ressha, his main Ressha. Like the Red Ressha included with the ToQ Changer, this Build Ressha has no ports to combine with other Robo, and is simply included for toy functionality. The worth of the toy boils down to you. For full price, I can’t really recommend it based upon the limited functionality. While I like the concept of a smartphone changer, and the concept of the slide out tracks, not having a Ressha reader or more extended functionality makes it a difficult purchase to swallow. At the end of the day, I really like what it is, it’s just a shame it can’t do more.
